5 holiday gift ideas to help keep your budget on track this year

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, the stores make a rapid change over to Christmas decor and music.

If you’re like me, you struggle with finding the perfect gift for everyone on your list.

As the holiday season gets closer it’s easy to start to panic and overspend just to check things off your list.

I’ve found starting my shopping early really helps.

Here are a few gift ideas to help keep your gift budget on track this year:

  1. A picture frame and photo of a fun memory or family gathering. No one is printing photos anymore. But everyone loves being surrounded by pictures smiling back at them. This is a simple and cost effective gift that will have a lasting impact.
  1. Homemade gifts are always a hit. Taking the time to make something priceless, should definitely warm the heart of anyone on your list.  Some ideas include: home cooked meals or soups for someone that doesn’t like to cook or lives on their own, a personalized photo album, a painting, sketch, card, collage, or any other craft of choice.
  1. During our cold Canadian winters, adding a pop of green into someone’s home will be most welcome. Find a Beautiful indoor plant and a pretty coordinating pot to make a perfect gift. One of my favorite plants is the Philodendron Berkin, it’s easy to maintain and prefers indirect sunlight.
  1. For those hard to buy for people on your list, how about a coupon for an experience. Here are some ideas for every budget: a nature walk (Lemoine’s Point, Lake Ontario Park, or Rock Dunder), selected Netflix movie and movie-night basket, concert or live play tickets or a snack or meal out together. People love having things to look forward to after the holidays are over.
  2. The most important part about gift buying is finding something that shows you really pay attention to the little things. Look around for clues. Do they like a certain author, or have a hobby or collection? If they have dietary restrictions, finding something just for them will be truly appreciated.

Be sure to set a budget for your holiday gifts and start early so you can avoid last minute panic purchases.

It may also be wise to suggest drawing names so you can reduce the number of people you need to shop for.

All the best as you endeavour to make the holidays about being present and not about the presents.

Testimonials

My partner and I have worked with Heidi Blondin of Blondin Financial for almost a year. We recently retired and needed help with our financial planning and investments. We needed sound, honest and prudent advice. First and foremost was to find someone that we could trust, feel comfortable and confident with and who understood our personal needs and desires. This is Heidi. More than thrilled to have found someone that meets all of our requirements and more. We honestly feel so fortunate to have found her.
